The 40 Assets help to bring the community together with a common goal to support the developing teens in Oakwood and surrounding communities. Through community service projects, constructive activities are created to not only benefit the community, but to instill teens with assets that will guide them throughout the rest of their life.

The Search Institute® has identified 40 Developmental Assets which act as building blocks of healthy development in youths in the community. Through positive experiences and influences, young people grow into healthy, caring and responsible adults. An in-depth explanation of the importance of these assets can be found at the Search Institute web site at:

What are the 40 Developmental Assets?
Who is involved in this initiative?

What makes the 40 Assets such a great community-based project is that it incorporates all aspects of the city and its citizens. We are all Asset Builders! Going beyond school involvement, the City of Oakwood, Wright Library, churches, scout troops, businesses, and other service organizations have all joined together to help create a community where teens can thrive and practice the 40 Assets. This collaborative effort will help to forge a collective vision and intentional strategy for embracing Oakwood’s youth.
